What Type Of Waterproofing Can I Use?

Our drains work with all waterproofing methods so you have the freedom to choose which is best for your project. Below are a list of the most common methods and brands highlighted in youtube videos.

Waterproofing systems under a concrete floor or hard pack.

A great way to go if you have living space (living or dining room, kitchen, etc.) under the shower. You can use this system if you have a curb. If you are going curb-less, the joists in the shower area will need to be recessed 3-3 1/2” below the joists in the dry area of the bathroom so you have enough height for the hot Mop or liner, had pack or Quikrete motor mix and drain.

Note: When you use this method with a linear drain the Oatey 3-part drain will need to be installed where you want the drain to be placed (up against the back or side wall or elsewhere) Should water find its way past the tile & grout and into the hard pack or Quikrete it will seep down to the PVC liner or Hot Mop and work its way to the Oatley drain where there are weep holes that allow any water to flow down into the drain.

Top Fabric Membranes.

These are an excellent choice for waterproofing your floor when the above systems are just not possible or preferable. With a top membrane your goal is to seal the floor just before the tile is installed. These fabric membranes are waterproof, mildew and mold resistant.

Paint on Membranes

Quick, easy to install and less expensive than the above options. Perhaps the best application when working slab on grade and doing your side walls.
