Where should I install my Drain?
Based on your answers to the following questions, we can provide you with your best options for where to install your drain.
To start, have you considered where you would like your drain? In general, we like to see the drain at the back wall, side walls or against the curb because you have “Captive Water.” Captive water simply means that all the water flows the drain up agains a wall or curb. For example: If you want a curb-less entry, it is ideal to put the drain at the back wall. There is probably no wrong place to install a linear drain, however there may be a good, better or best place depending on your answer to a few questions.
1. Do you want a curb-less entrance?
2. Are you working on a concrete floor? If so, where is the current p-trap in the floor?
3. Do you want to keep the present concrete floor intact?
4. If you are working on floor joists, are they standard 2 by joists (6”,8”,10” or 12”) OR Unalams (Laminated Veneer Lumber) OR HY Joists, Truss or Strut Joists?
5. If you are working on floor joists, do they run parallel or perpendicular to the back wall of the shower?
