Installation With Traditional Pan Liner/Rubber Membrane Underneath
1. If possible, install the shower barrel drain that has the ring flange, which mechanically attaches to the rubber membrane, as close to the center of the wall or floor as you are able.
2. Once this drain has been plumbed and the pan liner is in place, proceed with the installation.
3. Lay the Trough Drain upside down and screw in the 2" PVC Nipple (provided with the drain) without applying any glue. The nipple should come 1/8" below the bottom of the drain. Turn the drain over to check that the nipple has been threaded in at the proper depth.
4. Loosen the 4 collar bolts on the drain base and remove the clamping ring. Thread the clamping ring onto the half of the PVC nipple extending out the bottom of the drain. Do not glue the clamping ring onto the threads.
5. Set the entire assembly back on top of the drain base and give the clamping ring a slight turn to lock it back in place. Tighten all four (4) collar bolts on the clamping ring to secure it to the bottom barrel drain assembly. Make sure the drain is parallel to the wall before you proceed with your pour.
6. With everything in place and secured you are now ready to continue as usual and pour the shower pan. The biggest difference is that the shower pan will be one flat plane sloping gently to the top front edge of the drain. You will find it much easier pouring a flat single plane surface rather than one that has four (4) different slopes, all to the center. Your tile job will be much easier and quicker also.
* NOTE: If you are using existing plumbing and the shower drain is cast iron, the collar bolts will need to be completely removed before the clamping ring can be removed. Care needs to be given not to allow the pan liner to move around when the clamping ring and collar bolts have been removed and while replacing.
